Purpose & Impact of Position: Face of the clinic, greeting and welcoming patients for their appointments

Qualifications/Requirements:

• 1+ days/month 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
• Dressed appropriately for weather (station is sometimes outside)

Volunteer Work Location(s): On-site clinics (Athens, Crab Orchard, Decatur, Gatlinburg, Rutledge, Washburn)

Position Details:

• Most important for every position is treating each person with dignity and respect and establishing a compassionate environment by providing support to patients, friends, and families as needed
• Builds rapport with each patient to help him/her feel comfortable coming to the clinic, while also respecting each patient’s time and that the clinic needs to maintain patient flow
• Maintains and ensures patient privacy
• Arrives before beginning of clinic for announcements and group prayer
•  Upon arrival at the site:
  • Obtains hospitality box, clipboards, new patient forms, and set-up station
  • Hands-out badges to volunteers
    • If some volunteers do not have badges, please make a list and give to Nurse Manager for badges to be made
  • Places blue plastic signs at appropriate stations (Note: signs not always used at hospitality)
  • During pandemic: Records temperature of staff and volunteers, ensures patients have masks, and asks patients COVID screening questions
    • Note: if temperature is <97°F, please retake
• Welcomes patients as they arrive and the following:
  • Confirms all patients do not have insurance 
  • For new patients (and established patients as needed), gives needed paperwork (history, demographics, waiver to treat) and explains/advises:
    • Appointment flow and briefly what to expect at each station
    • Listing with dosage (amount, frequency, etc.) of medications or medication bottles are required for medical documentation
    • Restroom location(s)
    • SMLC does not provide narcotics or pain medications
  • If patient is a resident of Tennessee and not yet signed up for CoverRx, ask him/her to fill out a CoverRx application
  • Provides other assistance or support when needed
• Coordinates with Site Manager regarding next station for patient and any concerns, issues, and/or needs throughout clinic day
• Notifies Site Manager about no-show patients 
• At end of shift: 
  • Signs Volunteer Service Hours log and returns badge 
  • Ensures all volunteers have completed Volunteer Service Hours log
  • Cleans/reorders station and collects all disturbed items including name badges, remaining forms/flyers, etc.
  • Writes on Site Manager sheet any needed supplies and gives to Nurse Manager or Site Manager (paperwork, clipboards, etc. in hospitality box)
