Purpose & Impact of Position: Interpret patient encounters for both patients and providers

Qualifications/Requirements: 

• 1+ days/month 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (or flexible hours if telehealth)
• Professional proficiency in both Spanish and English

Location(s): On-site clinics (Athens, Crab Orchard, Decatur, Gatlinburg, Rutledge, Washburn) and/or remote for telehealth
# Volunteers in this position at each clinic: 1+ (depends upon if appointment is telehealth or in-person and number of patients on clinic schedule)

Position Details:

• Most important for every position is treating each person with dignity and respect and establishing a compassionate environment to patients, friends, and families as needed
• Builds rapport with each patient to help him/her feel comfortable coming to the clinic, while also respecting each patient’s time and that the clinic needs to maintain patient flow
• Maintains and ensures patient privacy
• Arrives before beginning of clinic for announcements and group prayer
• Upon arrival at the site helps unload clinic and set-up stations
• Greet and introduce yourself to the patient and provider
  • Interprets patient encounters for both patients and healthcare team
  • Note: When interpreting to schedule telehealth visits, schedule a time that works for both interpreter and patient (and ensure this is included on the schedule)
• Provides information on community resources for the patient and family (in collaboration with patient education)
• Coordinates with Site Manager and Nurse Manager regarding any concerns, issues, and/or needs throughout clinic day
• At end of shift signs Volunteer Service Hours log and returns badge
