SMLC has a small staff and many wonderful volunteers who work as a team to holistically help our patients live their healthiest lives! We look forward to serving with you.
Goal for our volunteers: Great experience of Christ-centered, patient-focused, compassionate care and camaraderie!
"[The greatest SMLC strength is] Unity! We all work together as a Team. We all have different medical background experiences and/or none yet we focus on one main thing... The well-being of our patients... The patients love our Clinic and are proud to be under our Medical Care." -SMLC Volunteer
All Clinic operations are under the general supervision of a physician and the SMLC Quality Committee. Volunteers and staff help unload and set up their appropriate stations (with reasonable accommodation for those who would like assistance), so that everything is ready for patients before they arrive. After setup, all staff and volunteers participate in a meeting huddle to discuss pertinent items for the day, undergo COVID screening when appropriate, and receive name badge and patient schedule for the day. Then for those who would like, we pray together before parting to each appropriate station. All communicate and coordinate with the Site Manager throughout the day regarding patient flow and/or any issues/concerns. At the end of the clinic day, all volunteers and staff participate in clean up and reload (again, with reasonable accommodation – we are happy to help each other!). Together, we help people live their healthiest lives and we have fun!

In accord with the SMLC Mission as a Catholic organization, we seek to holistically serve our patients and treat each person with dignity and respect. SMLC staff and volunteers follow the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Out of respect for each patient, SMLC strives to safeguard patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA law (introduction video on HIPPA), so volunteers sign a confidentiality agreement that they will not disclose or view patient information inappropriately. Please click here for more information about HIPAA law.
For patient and volunteer safety, SMLC completes a background check of each volunteer as part of the application process.
Personal clinical liability insurance is unnecessary to volunteer with SMLC as outlined in the Tennessee Volunteer Health Care Services Act and sections from the Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA).
